The University of Manchester is delighted to announce the School of Mathematics Scholarship Award. the scholarship is open to pursuing a postgraduate research programme at the School of Mathematics for the year 2019. Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

The university main objective is to provide high quality, comprehensive educational and training opportunities that are compatible with the changing needs of the students. The University of Manchester is ranked 33rd in the world by QS World University Rankings 2015-16. The University of Manchester is the largest campus-based undergraduate university in the UK.

The UK’s Home Office requires that every student from outside the UK and the European Union (EU) must show evidence of a minimum level of English language in order to be grant a UK visa to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing a postgraduate research programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded within the School of Mathematics.

Scholarship Award: University provides up to 10 to 12 scholarships each year which covers home tuition fees and maintenance.

Scholarship can be taken in the UK

Eligibility: Applicants must have a first-class honours degree, or possibly a good upper second class honours degree in mathematics at the master’s level or an appropriate related discipline.

Nationality: Scholarships are available to all nationalities.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have a First class honours degree, or possibly a good upper second class honours degree in Mathematics at Masters level or an appropriate related discipline.

English language Requirements:

  • IELTS – overall score of 7, including 7 in writing with no further component score below 6.0
  • TOEFL IBT – overall score of 100 with 25 in each section.
  • TOEFL code for Manchester is 0757
  • Scores are valid for 2 years.
  • For students who require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK, their test score is valid for 2 years preceding the date that their CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is issued.  CAS statements will be issued from June-September 2016.

How to Apply: To apply for a postgraduate research programme, you’ll need to complete and submit an online application form.

Applicants will need to submit:

  • Choose and make contact with their potential supervisor
  • Make sure they have evidence of prior academic qualifications to hand – these will be certificates or transcripts to show that they meet, or expect to meet the entry requirements.
  • Provide evidence of English language ability, if English is not their first language. Please note that some English language test results are only valid for two years. Their English language test report must be valid on the start date of their programme.
  • Obtain two references –download the university’s referee report form (PDF document, 50 KB)
  • Prepare a research proposal/piece of academic writing if required. This will be specified on the relevant academic School website.
  • Make a copy of their passport if they will need a visa to study in the UK.
  • Prepare a personal statement/statement of purpose if required. This will be specified on the relevant academic School website.
  • Prepare their CV-this is required for certain funded or project-linked awards.
