Excellence Scholarships (PhD)

UCC offers 11 Excellence Scholarships every year to applicants who intend to start a PhD Track (initial registration for a PhD) or MPhil degree in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences in September 2019 or January 2020.  

The scholarships cover EU tuition fees and are tenable for the duration of the student's chosen postgraduate course (2 yrs for MPhil, 3 years for PhD and 4 years for PhD Digital Arts and Humanities and DSocSc).

The scholarships are open to EU and non-EU students. However, the funding will only cover the EU fee, so successful non-EU applicants will be responsible for the balance.

Applicants must have at least Second Class Honours (Grade 1) or equivalent in their undergraduate or postgraduate degree and must have already applied for their chosen postgraduate course at www.pac.ie/ucc before applying for the scholarship. A referee's report will be required as part of the application process.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications and referees reports by email to [email protected]  is 12 noon, Wednesday, 1 May 2019.

Excellence Scholarships (Masters)

UCC offers 11 excellence scholarships every year to applicants who intend to start a Taught Masters or MRes in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences in September 2019.

The scholarships are for one year full-time or two years part-time only and are not extendable for any reason. If the taught programme is officially of two years’ duration, then the scholarship can be renewed for a second year, subject to satisfactory reports from the student and supervisor at the end of year 1. The scholarships are open to EU and non-EU students. However, the funding will only cover the EU fee, so successful Non-EU applicants will be responsible for the balance.

Applicants must have at least Second Class Honours (Grade 1) or equivalent in their undergraduate or postgraduate degree and must have already applied for their chosen Masters or MRes course at www.pac.ie/ucc before applying for the scholarship. Quercus Taught Masters Scholarships

The College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences are awarding scholarships to top-performing postgraduate applicants (3 EU and 3 Non-EU) to Masters programmes in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences.

Applications are open to candidates who have (or are expecting) a 1H Undergraduate honours bachelor degree (or equivalent result in a NFQ Level 8), or a 1H Postgraduate degree (or equivalent result in a NFQ Level 9).  Applicants must also demonstrate an exceptional level of academic excellence and commitment to their Masters course of choice, along with meeting the course entry requirements.

The Quercus Taught Masters Scholarship is a 50% contribution from the College towards the fees for the chosen Masters programme.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 1 June 2019. Applicants who apply by this date have until 30 June to upload confirmation of their degree results. 

O'Connor Scholarship (if your parent is named O'Connor)

 The O’Connor Scholarship is worth €10,000 and is open to anyone who meets the following conditions:

• Graduate of UCC
• Born in Ireland
• With a parent whose surname on birth was O’Connor
• Planning to do a postgraduate course at UCC in 2019/2020.

The O’Connor Scholarship was endowed by Mr. Dennis J. Doherty of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, to commemorate his wife Frances P. Doherty, his mother Catherine E. Doherty (née O'Connor) who came from Co. Kerry, and his sister Kathleen L. Doherty. One scholarship will be awarded on a competitive basis for 2018/2019, based on academic merit. The scholarship will be paid monthly over the academic session.

Candidates who meet all four criteria above should submit three hard copies of their scholarship application, in the form of a Curriculum Vitae (academic), to Ms. Anne Landers in the Student Records and Examinations Office, UCC, by Friday, 30 August 2019. References may also be included.

Irish Research Council Postgraduate Scholarships

The Irish Research Council Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme supports suitably qualified Research Masters and Doctoral candidates pursuing or intending to pursue full-time research in any discipline.

The next closing date for applications is expected to be in early September 2019.

Fee discount 25% for returning international students

UCC's College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences is pleased to welcome back international students who may have attended UCC and taken modules in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences in the past and now wish to return to UCC to pursue a taught Masters programme in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences.

As an incentive, Non-EU graduates (with at least a Second Class Honours grade 1 (or equivalent)) who attended UCC in the past (for a semester, a year, or longer) and are now progressing to a taught Masters programme in UCC's College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences are eligible for a 25% discount on the usual Non-EU taught Masters programme fee.

Erasmus+ Master Loans offer favourable interest rates to students from Spain and France applying for financial support to do a Masters degree at UCC for one or two years.

NUI Travelling Studentships

Worth up to €96,000 over 4 years.

• Did you achieve first class honours in your Bachelor's degree from the NUI, or in a Masters degree?
• Are you in the early stages of your PhD, or thinking about starting a PhD?
• Would you like to spend a substantial period of your doctoral research in a reputable university overseas? 

The National University of Ireland offers 3 of these Travelling Studentships in the Humanities & Social Sciences each year.
